Pricing & Billing

There are two things you need to know about our pricing model: we use PR-based pricing, and we express the cost of PRs in credits, our internal unit of measure.

How credits work

Each PR comes with a credit estimate, a cost estimate that we submit for your approval. Once a PR is merged, we finalize the cost such that it never exceeds the estimate range. At the end of each month, we calculate your bill based on your monthly usage and pricing plan.

Pay for PRs, not for time

We developed an innovative pricing model that allows us to take into account each PR’s complexity and charge accordingly - not for the time we spend on it. That’s why we charge per PR, not per hour. This may surprise you if you worked with other remote developers before, but we believe it’s a better way to charge for software development work.

We believe that the value of software development doesn’t come from time spent on it and that each PR is different. We establish PR pricing according to complexity and scope and factor in the ease of contributing to your codebase, including clear documentation, existing tests, and things like an easy-to-spin-up local development environment.

How much you can expect to pay depends on two things: how much work you assign us and the nature of that work.

Either way, you will always be aware and in control of your spending. We show you an estimate of the cost of your PR before we start to work on it. You can either accept our estimate or negotiate it with us. We’ll work with you to find a price that works for both of us.

Plans

We offer two plans

  • Annual Prepaid You purchase a block of 6000+ credits to be consumed over the 12 months. There is no minimum monthly committment but we highly recommend averaging 550-600 credits per month.

  • Monthly Plan The monthly plan is a minumum committment of 500 credits of work per month. You are billed for 500 credits if you are below the threshold have have discounted pricing for any credits above 500 in that month.

Invoices

You will receive an email at the beginning of each month from GitStart to settle the previous month’s usage invoice. If you are on an “Annual Prepaid” plan you will still receive an invoice (albeit $0 while you have a positive credit balance) showing the number of credits consumed.

If you have questions about payment, feel free to contact support@gitstart.com, and we’ll be happy to help.
